🌈 3 Ways to make your dance space sacred

PRE-P.S. There’s a BRAND NEW dance video of my solo performance from In the Lap of the Garden at the bottom of this blog.

🏠 I recently moved into a new home and a new dance studio. If you’ve ever changed the location of your home or work (or both!) then you know how stressful it can be to uproot your environment in such a massive way.

Even though I finally have all of my belongings unpacked and in their places, I’ve been feeling a lack of connection my dance space (even though it is bigger, brighter, and more private than my previous space).

😞 No amount of upgraded technology, installed mirrors, or even dancing made the space feel right. Not until I asked this out loud, did the energy shift:

“I wonder how I can make my dance space feel more sacred?”

As soon as those words left my mouth everything fell into place! So, here are three ways I was guided to make my dance studio more sacred.

Whether your studio is a corner of a room, your garage, or backyard, give these a try and see if they help you feel more connected to your dance practice.

  1. Plants

🪴 Because my cat kept trying to eat my house plants I had to move some of them into my studio so she would only be there under supervision. Voila! My dance studio became instantly more alive! All my plants have names and it feels warm and cozy to share the space with these super special forms of life.

  2. Meaningful Objects

🕯️ While I had originally wanted to maximize floor space and keep the background clean for my online classes with The Cohesion Collective, I decided one morning to temporarily bring a few sculptures, stones, and candles in there. After drumming and singing at the feet of my Quan Yin statue and Mother Mary candles, I created a place for my frame drum and cymbals to be left out. Not having to go back and forth into the closet to retrieve these instruments makes the space feel more dynamic and intentional.

  3. Ritual

🌈 Try listening to your own intuition about what ritual actions would feel good to take in your space. What scents, sounds, and practices bring you peace? As I did some spontaneous devotional drumming and singing to Mother Nature I also burned frankincense resin which filled the room with a sweet musk. Amidst the hazy air, a rainbow appeared on the wall as it shone through one of my quartz crystals (which I had never witnessed before!) and I knew I needed to hang some prisms in the window as well!

As soon as I moved the crystal that cast this rainbow it was gone!

I saw it as a sign from Mother Nature that she appreciates my offering of song, drum, and dance. An encouragement that says, “Yes! Keep doing this and magic will happen.”

By necessity, happenstance, and divine guidance I discovered these three ways to make my dance studio more sacred.

❓ I’m curious to know what you do to feel more connected to your dance space! Email me and let me know!

Warmly,

April Rose 🌹

P.S.

You know that spontaneous drumming and singing ritual I shared about in this blog? The song I sang was the same song I danced to at The Cohesion Collective’s recent show, In the Lap of the Garden.

I just released the video of my solo today! You are going to LOVE the song!!!! (…and hopefully the dance too 😊…)
